Overcoming Adversity, One Step at a Time

~ The Comeback King: Ken Green Returns to Professional Golf ~

Last June, Ken Green's life changed forever when his brother, girlfriend, and dog were killed in a motor home accident. In addition to losing his closest relatives and friends, Ken also lost his lower right leg, due to injuries he sustained after the accident.

Yet, while he recovered from the accident on a physical and mental basis, he never lost hope in his abilities to eventually return to professional golf, in order to continue to fulfill his childhood dreams of succeeding at the highest level.

This past weekend, Green's dreams became reality once more, as he played against some of the world's greatest golfers at the Champions Tour's Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, a two-man, best-ball event hosted at The Westin Savannah Harbor Resort and Spa in Savannah, Georgia.

Partnered with two-time PGA TOUR winner Mike Reid, Green played consistently well throughout the 54-hole event, as he displayed the form that helped him become a five-time PGA TOUR winner in the 1980s. With a variety of pure iron shots, as well as a delicate short game, Green and Reid shot a final round of 71 for a 12-under-par finish, which was good enough for a T-26 showing.

Quite simply, Green was happy to have an opportunity to play golf at the professional level once again. His steady play helped him realize that he is not only capable of playing well on a consistent basis, but that he is well on his way towards accomplishing his future goals - playing professional-level golf on a weekly basis, in order to eventually attain the success he once had on the links nearly two decades ago.

By now, less courageous men would have simply quit the game of golf, if they would have had to face the challenges that Green has withstood throughout 2009 and 2010. In the last ten months, Green has overcome more tragedies than most people encounter throughout their lives. In addition to losing his brother, girlfriend, dog, and leg, Green's son Hunter passed away back in January of an accidental drug overdose, just as Green's golfing comeback was starting to take form.

Yet, through it all, Ken Green has managed to strive towards his goals, as he has lived with a clear mission in mind - to play golf, not only for himself and his own personal objectives, but also for all the loved ones he has lost in the last year. With persistence, faith, and endurance, Green has been able to continue to play the game that he has loved ever since he was a young boy.

As Green continuously overcomes his past adversities, one step, round, and day at a time, he will play with the belief that he is still alive for a greater purpose - in order to inspire other people to strive for their dreams, at all times, in spite of all circumstances they may face during their lifetimes.

Without a doubt, the greater golfing community will continue to support and root for the man who simply does not know the meaning of the word quit, as he strives to live out his passion for the game of golf, throughout the upcoming Champions Tour season.
